Following a total of 53 days of hiatus after his nasal bone surgery,
Jonghyun made his long-awaited return to the stage and joined forces
with the other members of SHINee on M! Countdown. The episode,
broadcasted on 23rd May, was the first in a series of goodbye stages
that will wrap up SHINee's Why So Serious promotions.
Shawols were treated to their first glimpse of SHINee as a whole with a behind-the-scenes scoop on Mnet Wide News,
which aired right before the main show. The reunion brought about much
happiness from fans as both Onew and Minho teased that there will be a
"new member" joining them, who turned out to be none other than
Jonghyun. SHINee's "new member" revealed through a backstage interview
that he lost a lot of weight through exercising and wittily added that
no plastic surgery was done to his nose.
SHINee finally appeared at the end of the show to perform their touching
ballad, Sleepless Night, along with their title track. Jonghyun's
comeback was particularly emotional, and fans cheered the group on
enthusiastically throughout their performances. SHINee's smooth vocals
and strong choreography won the audience over. They also shared a few
words backstage and were ranked 11th on the charts for the week.
Shawols from all over the world united as one to trend #종현의컴백축하해요
("Congratulations on your comeback Jonghyun") on Twitter for over two
hours. The trend stayed at #1 on the worldwide trendlist throughout the
entire episode of M! Countdown and long after. With SHINee's 5th
anniversary around the corner, the incredible support from fans will
surely give strength to Jonghyun and the rest of the members as well.
